A Twin Cesarean Birth at Methodist Hospital The Med Center with Dr. Gei
Mom contacted me several months before her due date as they found out that this last pregnancy was going to be a surprise boy/girl twin birth. Mom wanted nothing more than to try and avoid a c-section as long as she could safely deliver them vaginally. I helped guide her towards choosing a doula to further support and educate her as she prepared to not only get used to the idea of having twins, but to know her options in delivering them. As her pregnancy progressed, there was concern on how well each of the babies were growing, so she met with the infamous Dr. Gei.
If you haven’t heard of Dr. Gei, he’s an amazing Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist in the Houston area that truly gives parents options in how they deliver their babies before automatically deciding on having a cesarean section. However, as we neared the end of her pregnancy, Baby A was stubbornly sitting breech and in a way that put both babies at risk in order to deliver vaginally. We would indeed be moving towards delivering via C-section. At 38 weeks 4 days, Mom arrived to the hospital for her scheduled section. Her doula, Kathleen Wilson, and I were welcomed into the OR and as Mom was wheeled in, we all dressed into our scrubs. When interventions are necessary, it is truly remarkable to see what medicine can do to help deliver babies.
Sweet Violet was born first and her brother, Noah, was born shortly after. They were taken into an observation area just outside the OR with their own Neonatal teams. Both babies were looking excellent, even Violet and her outstretched leg from being breech. Before they were finished suturing mom, both babies were brought back into the OR and with the help of her doula and the anesthesiologist, Mom was able to do skin to skin. Such a remarkable thing to help aid both babies and mom during the postpartum period. Most parents don’t know that even though the decision is made to have a cesarean section, that they can opt for a family-centered delivery and aid Mom and babies into skin to skin and even nursing before even leaving the OR.
Such a beautiful birth and family!

Although she would be delivering in the same hospital as her two other babes, she knew that she wanted a provider that would give her the opportunity to follow through with going unmedicated. So, for this pregnancy she switched from her usual OB to the Midwife Group at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women.
Here are 6 things to consider when choosing the hospital in Houston that you will deliver your baby at.
After Mom underwent a cesarean section with her first baby, she knew that she would be trying for a VBAC with the next. She was able to successfully get her VBAC for not only her 2nd babe, but also her third, which I had the honor of capturing.
I knew that after seeing how quickly things would move with their second baby, that things would most likely move just as quickly with their 3rd. At 40 weeks 1 day, Mom was sent to the hospital after finding out that her amniotic fluid was low.
This being their third birth, they knew things could go one way or the other. Either labor was going to be progressively faster than the last to, or we were going to experience the all too familiar “Wild Card” birth that a lot of 3rd babies bring.
Mom and Dad reached out to me a couple of months before their due date knowing that they wanted to relive their beautiful birth story through that way of a birth film. Still images are beautiful and amazing, but there is just something about seeing the movement and hearing the sounds of the moment your family grew.

This first-time mom contacted me about capturing their birth story early in their pregnancy knowing that they would want this special moment captured. They had plans to go through labor naturally, without any pain medications.
Mom contacted me after the guidance of her doula Kathleen Wilson recommended that their story be captured. They had just found out at 20 weeks that not only would be having surprise twin girls, but her option to have a home birth was no longer there due to the high-risk nature of the pregnancy.
