A Fast 3VBAC at Houston Methodist Hospital – Texas Medical Center
After Mom underwent a cesarean section with her first baby, she knew that she would be trying for a VBAC with the next. She was able to successfully get her VBAC for not only her 2nd babe, but also her third, which I had the honor of capturing.
I was beyond excited when I received the news that I would also be documenting their fourth and final delivery. It proved to be a very difficult pregnancy and Mom began care with Dr. Gei, her MFM Specialist (Maternal Fetal Medicine). We knew that this sweet babe would be making her appearance early due to her SPD, cholestasis and anemia.
The day of her induction, Kathleen Wilson with Labor Enabler and Rebel Birth Center and I arrived to help support them through the delivery. Things were moving at a steady pace and Mom and baby were tolerating things well. Right about the time that Mom decided to get a change in music, we put on Truth Hurts by Lizzo. We all shared some laughs as her doula couldn’t help but break down in some dance moves. This was the turning point in her labor. The song ended and Mom began to quiet and go internal within her labor. We changed positions and the emotions could be seen as tears began to stream down her face. I knew that we would be meeting her baby soon. We notified the nurse in the shift of her labor and she notified the doctor that he should start heading to the hospital.
Things moved quickly from there and before we knew it, Mom was feeling the natural urge to push. Without the epidural the reflex to push kicked in and there was no stopping baby from coming. The team of nurses rushed in just in time to catch baby.
Sweet Stella was instantly placed on Mom’s chest for the lovely moments of skin to skin and the first latch. Shortly after, her older siblings came to meet their baby sister. So special to see how smitten they were from the beginning. Happy birthday Stella!

Although she would be delivering in the same hospital as her two other babes, she knew that she wanted a provider that would give her the opportunity to follow through with going unmedicated. So, for this pregnancy she switched from her usual OB to the Midwife Group at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women.
Here are 6 things to consider when choosing the hospital in Houston that you will deliver your baby at.

I knew that after seeing how quickly things would move with their second baby, that things would most likely move just as quickly with their 3rd. At 40 weeks 1 day, Mom was sent to the hospital after finding out that her amniotic fluid was low.
This being their third birth, they knew things could go one way or the other. Either labor was going to be progressively faster than the last to, or we were going to experience the all too familiar “Wild Card” birth that a lot of 3rd babies bring.
Mom and Dad reached out to me a couple of months before their due date knowing that they wanted to relive their beautiful birth story through that way of a birth film. Still images are beautiful and amazing, but there is just something about seeing the movement and hearing the sounds of the moment your family grew.
Mom several months before her due date as they found out that this last pregnancy was going to be a surprise boy/girl twin birth. Mom wanted nothing more than to try and avoid a c-section as long as she could safely deliver them vaginally.
This first-time mom contacted me about capturing their birth story early in their pregnancy knowing that they would want this special moment captured. They had plans to go through labor naturally, without any pain medications.
Mom contacted me after the guidance of her doula Kathleen Wilson recommended that their story be captured. They had just found out at 20 weeks that not only would be having surprise twin girls, but her option to have a home birth was no longer there due to the high-risk nature of the pregnancy.
